The Pure Krav Maga Curriculum Rationale/Boaz Aviram, Founder

Pure Krav Maga or Original Krav Maga is about conditioning one's brains and body for self defense in minimum amount of time possible or at least feasible. So everything about it is different than any other Common Martial Art or Fighting Sport.

I do not believe slow motion breakdown demo and rehearsing the demo steps for memorization is beneficial training time for the students. Students may feel good with the exertion regulating their breathing and with light challenging impact stimulating effect and their agreed upon ability to control staged scenarios.

But my idea is like this: you turn your head and anything can happen in a split second. So to minimize that kind of a danger, you need to be very methodical in reaction with reach impact leverage and prioritization and judgment under any challenging opponent possible.

While Safety in training calls for controlled environment these controls are usually the downfall of the training process if not placed to mimic realistic most dangerous challenging possible opponent, yet facilitating the development of skills and awareness of reality.

I think students through training should get a live realistic feel and sensation of the process. You need to break down the mechanics of impact, the mechanics of reaction time and blocking and put them back together and eliminate the continuous attack or combinations initially during counters but rather teach the concept as follow up attack separately and incorporate it into sparring.

The training process should include enough training to have the student understand why he cannot use any other techniques or methods of solution or drills.

For the training to be realistic, its not about getting ideas how to do it, or getting a feel of impact, but rather, in each session exploring and breaking down and stretching to he maximum the elements of hand-to-hand combat.

So first of all you need to realize that you have to be alert and efficient. It is a process that is incorporated throughout the training process. It is sort of a training matrix intended to save time, but also in its nature complex and needed to be broken down and ingested until one sees the whole picture.

Not to getting hurt requires eliminating threats before they materialize. Since we talk about hand to hand fighting we need to reach our opponent pressure points first. Well we need to learn and understand what are pressure points. Then we need to learn efficient methods to reach and control them first.

After students master the use of leverage and timing to deliver maximum reach and impact we now have a challenging training partners. Now we need to feel the mechanism of blocking or foiling the attack and countering. So here again the element of reaction time(Immi's special) comes into play, and the tested training methods.

Since you really do not have the time to think too much, you need to narrow down the immediate possibilities of initial possible attack and come up with response procedures to the most possible attack in the near split second. Chain of defense concept is based on distance, length and reach of limbs and methods of advancing closer to the target.

Again keep in mind that with all this possible unfolding action you still need to reach your opponent pressure points first and if he tries to reach your pressure points you need to prevent him from doing so.

While it might seem impossible to tackle, a rule of thumb is that with each first attempt needed to be done in maximum efficiency, there is a follow up attempt to be considered.

While Krav Maga specialty is counter attack at the same time of the attack, when it comes to blunt and edged weapons the reach of the counter attack with bare hands is shortened and therefore one cannot counter attack exactly at the same split second of the attacker first blunt impact, stab or cut. 


Therefore, the evasion or deflection has to be followed with very precise movement to close the gap yet limiting the opponent's ability to follow up attacks.

When it comes to grappling its still about impact to pressure points. While now this process can be done with direct leverage on the opponents bones and cartilage or even skin for reaching nerves the way to control the opponent so he will not reach your pressure points first is through leverage. 

While standing taking out of balance ensure slowing down your opponent's impact capabilities, and ensuring he will not escape your impact on his pressure points.

Yes warm up is a good idea at to start with each training session... A good curriculum is a great control method to checklist the completion of all components of the training process to ensure students are turning into fighting machines that will work under any possible condition but most important under any challenging opponent possible.
