The Israel Defense Force (IDF) does have a reputation as an army... Krav Maga is a name adopted by the IDF for its Hand To Hand Fighting Training System, developed by Immi Sde-Or and Eli Avikzar. Boaz Aviram, the third Israel Defense Force Krav Maga Chief Instructor succeeded Eli Avikzar. When he left the Israel Defense Force Fighting Fitness Academy, he had no immediate replacement. The chain of lineage was broken. But what is more important, all the secret ingredients that were never before written in the training manuals but rather had been transformed with hands on training drills were lost in the IDF. These emphases points were never taught to the civilian Krav Maga black belts!
Unfortunately as we can all see, just using a name of a training system by either the Israeli Defense Forces of Mr. John Smith is not going to cut it!
If someone is telling you about the Israel Defense Force reputation of not being able to afford losing wars, enjoy listening! But ask yourself How is that going to help you not getting killed. You need to find out about your own Instructor's Reputation Instead.
Nothing wrong in excelling in a sport but self defense should be well rounded skills and not in winning sports competitions, but in awareness through understanding the limits both you and your opponent may have through lecture and training and using them to your favor when you can.[Boaz Aviram, Pure Krav Maga Founder]
Pure Krav Maga has all the techniques and the Tactics that the other Martial Arts have in their most efficient combination of form and prioritization geared for Self Defense Training under the constraint of reaction time.
Read the book Krav Maga - Use Your Body as a Weapon, as it will help you to apply your own judgment!
Joshua Hurt said... Couldn't agree more! If you can't get to a Pure Krav Maga class then the book and the dvd's are absolute money!
